A pneumatic pump, also known as an air-operated pump or pneumatic diaphragm pump, is a type of positive displacement pump that uses compressed air as the power source to move the pump’s diaphragm.
The pump consists of two chambers separated by a flexible diaphragm. Compressed air is used to alternately apply pressure to one side of the diaphragm, causing it to move back and forth, creating a vacuum on one side and pressure on the other. This movement creates suction and discharge of the fluid being pumped.
Pneumatic pumps are commonly used in industries such as chemical processing, food and beverage, oil and gas, and wastewater treatment, where the pumping of corrosive, abrasive, or viscous fluids is required. They are preferred over other types of pumps in some applications because they are more durable and require less maintenance. They are also often used in hazardous environments because they do not produce sparks, and the compressed air used as a power source is considered safer than electricity or fuel-powered pumps.
